A Chinese grandfather, 53, whose baby grand daughter was stabbed to death, and wife and daughter seriously injured, is under police guard in hospital.

The two-month-old girl died in a Brisbane hospital. Her mother, 28, is in a serious condition and her grandmother is being treated for life-threatening wounds, according to police.

Brisbane police attended two homes in Watheroo Place and Mapelton Circuit in the Brisbane suburb of Parkinson on Wednesday afternoon in response to reports of shouts and screaming.

Police said the grandfather and grandmother were visiting Brisbane from China.

Acting Police Inspector Sean Mackay said it appeared the mother, a Parkinson resident, ran to a neighbour’s house in Mapelton Circuit to get help.

“One of the victims went to the secondary crime scene and that’s where police were notified from there,” Mr Mackay said.

Two crime scenes have been established, with both Watheroo Place and Mapelton Circuit closed.

Police have not confirmed the injuries suffered by the grandfather.

‘No other people involved’

Police have not confirmed their suspicions, but confirmed they were not looking for any new suspects.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation, which will include detectives speaking with the three adults when their medical conditions allow,” police said in a statement.

“At this time, it is believed there are no other people involved.”

Horror in a ‘quiet, leafy suburb’

A resident of Watheroo Place told Sky News it was a “quiet street” and described Parkinson as a “beautiful suburb”.

“We’re quite surprised to come home and find something like this on our doorstep,” she said.

“Lots of police cars, ambulance, and the road cordoned off, we were pretty upset to see that.”

Nearby residents reported hearing blood-curdling screams before running onto the street to find a distressing scene.

Neighbour Sun Gill told The Courier Mail he saw one man covered in blood walking down the street after the attack.

“I was outside feeding my dogs when I heard the screams, they were very loud,” Mr Gill, who lives behind the house where the incident occurred, said.

“I ran outside down the street then and I saw him [the man] walking down the street before the police arrived.

“We don’t talk to them really, it’s the first time anything really has happened here.

“When I saw him outside, he was losing a lot of blood.”

“It was pretty surreal. Very, very surreal, just the blood itself,” Mr Gill told Fairfax media.

“They had the garage door open … you could see all the blood in the garage and then the trail from when they walked to the neighbour’s house.”

Police remain with all three people in hospital.
