Millions of Aussies have been left fuming after Vodafone’s mobile network crashed, sending calls and data services into chaos across the country.

The telco confirmed the disruption on Thursday, saying some users were facing intermittent problems with mobile services.

“We are aware that some customers are experiencing intermittent issues with Vodafone mobile services and we are urgently investigating,” Vodafone said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

“We will provide an update as soon as possible. We recommend customers to power cycle their device to restore services.”

South Australia Police also issued a warning about the outage, which also included some secondary mobile carriers.

“Some customers of the TPG Telecom network – including Vodafone, iiNet, TPG, Kogan, Felix, Lebara, Lycamobile, etc. are experiencing intermittent network issues. TPG-Telecom recommend that customers restart their device by turning it off and on to restore services,” they said.

“During the disruption it is expected emergency calls to triple zero will connect for customers who have a voice connection and customers that have no connection to the TPG network will be expected to ‘Camp-On’ to other carrier networks where available.”

They said anyone who couldn’t connect should first turn off their device and then turn it on again. If that failed, they are urged to find another device on a different network or a landline to use to call emergency services.

Earlier, Vodafone’s online network status checker was also failing, displaying a generic error message warning customers they might experience connection issues while the network was being improved.

Outage-tracking website Downdetector had received tens of thousands of reports of problems with Vodafone services before 10am.
