ANZ’s banking services have reportedly crashed across Australia, leaving customers stranded without access to their cash.

It came as one of the country’s major retailers also reported issues hitting transactions in its supermarkets.

Website Downdetector had nearly 8000 reports of issues with ANZ’s mobile and online banking from 1pm (AEST) on Friday.

“It’s Friday afternoon and our internet banking and app are not working? We have workers and bills to pay!” one user wrote on social media.

“No purchases or internet banking,” said another.

Others reported being “locked out” of their accounts, adding they were unable to pay rent or staff wages.

“ANZ down. I am locked out of my account. Cannot pay rent or payroll. Just went to the branch and they have closed it,” Ben O’Brien wrote.

“The young guy said they are all locked out of their own system and unknown when it will be up and running.”

Other customers also reported being unable to reach the bank by phone.

Furious customers were also complaining online about the lack of updates from the big-four bank.

“ANZ, any chance you could update your customers on the current system outage and when it might be fixed? Can’t access the App or online,” wrote one customer.

“It appears you have a major system outage, but no info here. Updates here would be useful to your customer-base, don’t you think?” wrote another in South Australia.

ANZ’s troubles struck just hours after shoppers at Woolworths in the ACT, Victoria, Queensland and NSW reported being unable to access EFTPOS services.

Seven News reported an outage hit about two dozen supermarkets in the south-eastern states, with Nine reporting Queensland was also affected.

“We’d like to thank customers for their patience with an IT outage affecting EFTPOS in a small number of stores,” a Woolworths spokesperson told Seven.

“Stores remained open with cash still being able to be used. The cause has been identified and EFTPOS is being restored. Again we thank everyone for bearing with us this morning.“

Woolworths stores in Mawson in the ACT, Pakenham Market Place in Victoria, Stafford in Queensland, as well as in Sydney’s south and west, reported issues online throughout Friday.
