The coach who showed players pre-game porn

Ex-Real Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros decided the ideal way to motivate his players before a crucial match in 2012 was to show them a porn movie.

Caparros, preparing his players for a match against Athletic Bilbao in December 2012, diverted away from the usual pre-match team talk.

His side were just one spot above the relegation zone and, in a bid to change things up, he put on an adult film, before telling his players to ā€˜play as hard’ as the movie’s star.

Brazilian defender Anderson Conceicao, who played 16 times for the club that season, told Marca – as reportedĀ by The Sun: ā€œIn the pre-match team talk, the gaffer (Caparros) began to show us a video.

ā€œImagine our surprise when we realised we were watching a porn video.

ā€œOur faces must have been a sight because none of us had a clue what we were watching. I guess it was some sort of American film.

ā€œIt didn’t last longer than 30 seconds – but it was unforgettable.

ā€œHe told us: ā€˜On the pitch, you need to play as hard as this guy’, and he pointed at the screen.

ā€œThe coach used the video to try to lift the mood in the squad. He wanted to see a reaction from us all.

ā€œUnfortunately we could not turn things around that day. We lost 1-0.

ā€œBut every time we all talk, we remember that story. It’s impossible not to end up in fits of laughter. It was hilarious.ā€

Caparros was eventually sacked – and Real Mallorca were relegated.

The 60-year-old Caparros – who also managed Sevilla, Villarreal and Deportivo La Coruna – is currently out of work.
