Border: Clarke must depart on own terms
The captain who guided Australia through some of their darkest cricketing days wants selectors to avoid a āknee-jerkā reaction to Michael Clarkeās slump.
Allan Border feels Clarke has earned the right to end a stellar 114-Test career on his own terms despite a lean trot that has compounded Australiaās woes in the Ashes.

Clarke extended his poor run with a score of 13 at Trent Bridge on Friday, having fallen for 10 in the first dig of the fourth Test.
The 34-year-old has reached 25 just six times in his past 30 Test innings and looked largely uncomfortable throughout the current Ashes series in which he averages 16.71.
Pundits have also questioned whether Clarkeās batting woes are impacting his captaincy.
Last weekās loss at Edgbaston was Clarkeās 12th Test defeat overseas as skipper.
Clarke has dug in his heels, saying he is confident the wheel will turn and he has no interest in retiring after the five-Test series.
āI wouldnāt (hope thereād) be any knee-jerk reactions on his situation,ā Border told cricket.com.au.
āHeāll know himself if he wants to keep going and if heās got the hunger for it.
āHe looks like heās under pressure, but thatās understandable with his circumstances and the teamās circumstances.ā
Australia have a two-Test tour of Bangladesh in October then host New Zealand and the West Indies in three-Test series.
Border felt the time was wrong for Clarke to hang up the boots.
āIt hasnāt quite worked out and I understand all that, but I donāt think weāre ready for that change just yet unless he thinks itās time,ā Border said.
āHe deserves the opportunity to go out on his own terms.
āHe wants to perform well. Heās a very passionate bloke, he works hard at his game.ā
Border captained Australia in 93 Tests, more than any other man.
The 60-year-old is also a former selector.
