Bombers chief throws support behind Hird

James Hird has received strong support from Essendon chief executive Xavier Campbell on the same day the Bombers capitulated again.
Hird struggled to find positives after Sundayâs 19.13 (127) to 5.10 (40) belting at Etihad Stadium.

âToday I think the only positive is that you just donât want to be involved in games like that,â a dejected Hird said.
âYou want to perform better and those sorts of performances have to hurt. You want to get to the stage as a group and as a club that you just never let that happen.
âYou can play poorly, you can lose and things can go wrong but you donât lose like that.â
It came four weeks after St Kilda mauled Essendon by 110 points.
While the Bombersâ hierarchy will hold a review at the end of the season, Campbell said on Sunday that Hird will coach Essendon next year.
âJames is contracted next year and James will coach the club next year. 100 per cent,â Campbell told 3AW.
âI canât see anything else changing between now and then.
âI appreciate there is a school of thought around extending (his contract) but we will set relevant KPIs for James like we do for other football staff and we will go from there.â
