Adelaide’s interim coach Scott Camporeale says he will steer the grieving AFL club along the path laid by Phil Walsh.

The Crows returned to training on Monday, three days after Walsh was allegedly murdered by his son.

“We had a discussion this morning and tried to just reflect on Phil’s values that he left at this footy club – team first and elite standards,” Camporeale told reporters on Monday.

“That won’t change. They’re the real pillars and foundations put down.

“The vision that Phil had nine months ago when I sat down with him in November … that won’t change.

“The players are behind that. They want to live and breathe what Phil put in place so there won’t be any deviations from that at all.”

Camporeale will have former West Coast coach and Walsh confidant John Worsfold in a newly-created director of coaching role.

The interim appointments were made on Monday as Camporeale and the club struggle to comprehend Walsh’s death.

“This club needs everyone at this point in time. And we’ll be doing our absolute darndest,” he said.

Camporeale, in his fifth season as a Crows assistant, said who would coach the club was an after-thought to Walsh’s killing.

But he said the club must turn its attention to Saturday’s away fixture against West Coast in Perth.

“With this situation, everyone handles it different,” the former Carlton premiership player said.

“As for when we play West Coast this week – who knows.

“One thing I do know is the players will want to respect Phil and what is really important to this footy club.”

Adelaide’s players have been offered counselling and, after a day away from the club, impressed Camporeale at training on Monday.

“We had a pretty good session,” he said.

“Footy clubs are the best environment to be in in these sort of circumstances, you’re with your mates, you’re all on the same page.

“This group is a resilient group. This is a resilient footy club.

“The challenge is ahead of us, no doubt about that.”

“But I’m confident in the players, the footy club, the coaching staff, are up to it.”
