In aqua blue H&M, Berdych looked better suited to a beach club than an international grand slam. Honourable mention goes to Fernando Verdasco, who looked like a biro had leaked all over his top.

Best meltdown

Kim Sears’ profanity-laden outburst during the first set of her fiancée Andy Murray’s match with Tomas Berdych was a sight to behold. But at least she has a sense of humour, given the top she wore to watch her beau in the final.

Most awkward moment

Tie between “twirl-gate” and Andy Murray’s Twitter attack on Rafael Nadal.

When commentator Ian Cohen asked Eugenie Bouchard to “twirl” to show off her dress, he sparked a widespread backlash against the treatment of women in sport.

Meanwhile, Murray used Twitter to take a swipe at Nadal, who battled cramps and illness during a second-round match:

The newly renovated Margaret Court Arena was a great space to watch matches and provided a happy medium between pricey centre court tickets and more affordable ground passes.

Most embarrassing moment

Poor Boris Becker just wanted a loo break. What he got instead was an angry player – Novak Djokovic – and a healthy serving of public humiliation. When Becker left the player’s box to go to the bathroom during a pivotal point, Djokovic noticed and demanded to know his whereabouts. After the match, Courier pointed this out and Djokovic responded: “Like everyone, he has a need to go to the toilet which I understand. But not in the first game of the third set, Boris! Please!” A red-faced Boris was left laughing awkwardly.

Best point

We’re calling it: this ridiculous point during Nick Kyrgios’ match against Andreas Seppi was brilliant, heart-stopping, hilarious tennis. Kyrgios seemed to agree – throwing his racquet on the ground at the end of the point in exasperation and admiration.
