Dad of murdered WA family bares his pain and blames grandad for massacre
The shattered father of the four children killed in the Margaret River family murder-suicide says their grandfather didnāt snap before itās believed he shot them.
Peter Miles, his wife Cynda, daughter Katrina and Mr Cockmanās four children ā daughter Taye, 13, and sons Rylan, 12, Arye, 10, and Kadyn Cockman, eight ā were found dead at the Milesā Osmington property, northeast of Margaret River in Western Australia on Friday.
Peter Miles had not been named by police as the killer on Sunday afternoon, but the grieving father left no one in doubt that he regards him as responsible for the horrific crime.
āPeter didnāt snap ā heās thought this through. I think heās been thinking this through for a long time,ā Aaron Cockman, speaking for the first time since the tragedy, told reporters.
āAll the kids died peacefully in their beds.
āThey looked all peaceful. How the hell Peter did that, I still canāt figure out. He did a good job.
āHe did a really good job.ā
Mr Cockman said he still loved Miles for āwho Peter wasā.
āIf it wasnāt for him, I wouldnāt have Katrina, I wouldnāt have her kids,ā he said.
āSo itās not some random guy off the street whoās taken them away from me ā he gave them to me and now heās taken them away.
āIf it had to happen, there is no better person than that.ā
Mr Cockman, who was estranged from Katrina, said he had not spoken to Peter and Cynda āsince they cut me off from my kidsā but being angry served no purpose.
āAnger will destroy you. Iām sad but Iāll get through this.ā
Mr Cockman said he would never forget his childrenās personalities.
āI could talk about my kids all day ā Taye is a beautiful girl,ā he said.
āIāve lost everything in my life.ā
