Former Liberal MP Katie Allen has died following a battle with cancer, aged 59.
Allenās family announced the death in a social media post on Tuesday, with two of her daughters writing messages of love in the comments.
āShe spent her life caring for others as a mother, doctor, professor, MP and friend. She is deeply loved,ā it said.
āShe passed in peace surrounded by family and lived a full, beautiful life, all the way to the end.
Allen represented the Melbourne seat of Higgins from 2019 to 2022, entering politics after being a paediatrician and medical researcher for more than two decades.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Allen dedicated herself to making Australia a better place.
Liberal senator Jane Hume, a former party room colleague of Allenās, said she was an extraordinary woman.
Former Liberal senator Simon Birmingham said his memories with Allen were a true blessing.
āKatie my friend, my Canberra housemate, my fellow political warrior, and a true servant of the people, may you rest in peace,ā he wrote.
āAll our love to Malcolm and all of Katieās wonderful, loving and supportive family.ā
