Notorious outback killer Bradley John Murdoch has died … but one secret lives on
It was July 2001. British backpackers Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees were driving on a remote stretch of the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory when a ute pulled alongside their van.
The driver, Bradley John Murdoch, convinced them to pull over, saying there was a problem with their van and when they did.
Murdoch shot 28-year-old Peter Falconio in the head.
He attacked Lees, but the 27-year-old managed to escape, hiding in nearby bushland for five hours.
Murdoch was convicted of murder and jailed for life. He’s never revealed where Peter Falconio’s remains lie.
Police suspect Falconio’s body was dumped somewhere between Alice Springs and Broome – a remote stretch of 2000 kilometres.
Now at age 67, following a throat cancer diagnosis in 2019, Murdoch has died in Alice Springs, taking his secret to the grave.
More than 24 years on from the murder of Peter Falconio, his family members are still waiting for closure.
