Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have been greeted by a big crowd in the Barossa Valley, at the start of their Australian tour.

The royal couple touched down at the RAAF Base at Edinburgh at about 1:00pm, before making their way to Tanunda.

Hundreds of royal fans and school children lined the town’s main street to meet the pair, who were last in South Australia in 2012.

Among the crowd was Clare Morrow, who was a maid at Buckingham Palace in 1992 and travelled with them.

“When they go to the different houses the staff go with them,” she said.

“So I had a dance with Prince Charles at Balmoral.”

Ms Morrow said she went to Tanunda because she wanted to support the pair.

“I just thought I wanted to wave to him from the background, be in the crowd,” she said.

Ms Morrow said it was great to meet the Prince again, despite him not remembering her.

“He said, ‘I don’t remember you’, and I said, ‘I didn’t expect you to’,” she said.

“But I’m still wobbling like I did in 1992.”

The royal pair has also brought out the history buffs, including Nick Kinyangui from Modbury.

“I’ve always had a bit of a flair for history so I like to learn about the royal lines and blood lines,” he said.

“So it’s nice to see an actual royal family in my time.”

Steven de Kleer from Angaston was at Tanunda to greet the royals.

Mr de Kleer also saw Prince Charles two decades ago in Africa.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for him to bring a bit of excitement and colour to the town,” he said.

From Tanunda, the Royals made their way to Seppeltsfield Winery where they saw a working cooperage, exhibits by JamFactory artisans and had a tasting from the centennial cellar.

After visiting the Barossa, Prince Charles will turn a sod at a green living development site at Bowden in Adelaide’s inner north-west, while the Duchess of Cornwall will attend a domestic violence conference at Government House.
