One week after Bunnings implemented new policy allowing dogs on site, a young girl has reportedly been bitten on the leg.

According to Fairfax Radio, mother Ebbie Hungerford said her daughter Madeline was recovering after being bitten on the leg at Bunnings, north of Melbourne, in Melton, on Sunday.

She told the radio station that she didn’t think a busy store was the right environment for a dog.

“Bunnings on a Sunday is really busy…just not a good environment for a dog,” Ms Hungerford told 3AW Radio.

“We did a little family trip to Bunnings and weren’t aware this new rule has been in place for a week.

“She didn’t get quite close enough to the dog [to pat it] and [the dog] grabbed her on the knee.

“It’s broken the skin just below her knee, she’s got two bite marks that have broken the skin and bruises and swelling.”

According to News Corp, Bunnings agreed to pay all medical costs after the incident.

Ms Hungerford told  3AW Radio that the owner had two dogs in the store which she thought looked like Jack Russell terriers.

“It wasn’t until after that we were told dogs were allowed inside,” she said.

Five days ago Bunnings operations director Michael Schneider confirmed to News Corp that dogs were now allowed inside the stores.

However, he said that “staff retained the right to refuse entry to any animal”.
