Author and Fairfax columnist Sam de Brito has been found dead in his North Bondi home by his mother.

The father of one was found on Monday morning, with police not treating the death as suspicious or suicide.

His family released a statement later on Monday saying de Brito would be remembered as a ‘wonderful and devoted father’.

“The family and friends of the writer and journalist Sam de Brito have been devastated by his sudden death this morning,” his family said in a statement.

“Sam, 46, has revelled in parenthood and was a wonderful and devoted father to his young daughter, Anoushka.

“He will also be remembered as a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend, as well as a distinguished columnist and author.

“His family asks for privacy at this time, as they grieve for the loss of Sam and await the results of a coroner’s report.”

NSW Police Force officers from the Waverly Local Area Command confirmed de Brito was found by his mother.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

De Brito had written the column, All Men are Liars since 2006.

It was published in the Sun Herald, and in The Sunday Age on weekends.

His last column was published on Sunday.

De Brito often wrote about his young daughter, Anoushka, with whom he shared custody with his former partner.

He was also the author of five books including No Tattoos Before You’re Thirty, The Lost Boys and Building A Better Bloke.

Fellow journalists and readers of de Brito’s column have paid tribute to the author.
