An appearance on ABC flagship program Q&A seems to have provided inspiration to the rising public profile of the first man charged under Australia’s counter-terrorism laws.

Zaky Mallah’s debut on the panel program was a catalyst for already-building tensions between the broadcaster and the Abbott Government, but the controversy seems to have fuelled an endeavour to start his own question and answer program.

On Monday night he broadcast ‘QandA with Zaky Mallah’ using smartphone app Periscope to an audience of about 100 from his Paramatta home.

The 20-minute streaming discussed a disdain for the Abbott Government, labelled federal ALP leader Bill Shorten as “dodgy” and “soft” and revealed a bizarre fascination with TV presenter Sandra Sully.

“I think the Australian Federal Police find me as a very interesting character,” he said, according to The Australian, as he speculated on who might be watching the broadcast.

“They find me interesting to the point that they like to meet up with me for coffee to get my insight.”

He asserted an interest in appearing on Dancing with the Stars with Sully.

“I wouldn’t mind dancing with Sandra Sully. I wouldn’t mind dancing with you darlin’, Sandra darlin’, are you there?” he said.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced a ministerial boycott of Q&A in June after after Mallah claimed on live television that Muslims were “justified” in deciding to join Islamic State.
