Zimbabwe officials have accused a second American hunter of illegally killing a lion.

Gynaecologic, oncologist and surgeon Jan Casimir Seksi, 67, from the US state of Pittsburgh participated in an illegal hunt in April, Zimbabwean officials claimed.

It was alleged that Dr Seski killed a lion during the hunt with a bow and arrow, the same method used by dentist Walter Palmer to kill famous lion Cecil.

The Telegraph reported the professional hunter who assisted Dr Seski in the killing has been arrested and is helping the police with their investigation.

Dr Seski has made no public comment on the allegations, which came as Zimbabwe announced a crackdown on all illegal hunting in private conservancies.

Dr Palmer is reportedly in hiding as the international community condemns Cecil’s killing.

Director General of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Emmanuel Chidziya, said anyone who wanted to hunt the country’s iconic wildlife in the future would need express permission from him.

Around 50 lions each year are killed by hunters in Zimbabwe, 20 less than the toll before industry reforms in 2013.

On Friday, Zimbabwe’s environment minister Oppah Muchinguri, called for Dr Palmer to be extradited from the US to face similar illegal hunting charges to the landowner and poacher who helped him locate Cecil.

The identity of the lion killed by Dr Seski is still not known.
