Former Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Griffin McMaster was omitted from his side’s FFA Cup clash on Wednesday night after he wrote on Twitter AFL player Adam Goodes should be deported from Australia.

McMaster’s current club Heidelberg United FC dropped the player from its squad for the match against Broadmeadow Magic while it investigates the matter, it said in a statement.

Swans star Goodes has been in the spotlight after being subjected to constant booing by opposition fans, and has been rested by the club for this weekend’s match against Adelaide.

“Adam Goodes calls Australia Day invasion day. Deport him. If you don’t like it leave,” McMaster tweeted on Tuesday night.

The 32-year-old, who made 16 appearances for the Roar between 2007 and 2010, went on to call Goodes “Un-Australian” on Twitter when confronted about his comments on Wednesday.

“Australian government bend over for indigenous. Free interest loans, free Uni degrees. Even said sorry & he’s still going on,” (sic) Griffin tweeted.

The tweets were later deleted.

Football Federation Australia came out in support of Heidelberg’s actions.

“Football Federation Australia (FFA) applauds Heidelberg United Football Club for standing goalkeeper Griffin McMaster down from tonight’s FFA Cup match following a series of offensive tweets this afternoon,” it said in a statement.

“FFA condemns the content of the tweets sent from Griffin McMaster’s personal twitter account and will continue to liaise with the club in relation to the matter.”
