Workers in a Hong Kong children’s clothing store were confronted by an unusual customer on Sunday when a wild boar wandered in and became trapped.

TV footage showed the boar, which had reportedly climbed up a ladder into the shop’s back room, punching a hole through the showroom’s false ceiling with a hoof.

The boar soon became a spectacle for shoppers at Chai Wan shopping mall, causing a four-hour stand-off with police and animal control officers, the South China Morning Post reported.

“It just came in out of nowhere, and turned around at the show window,” the shop manager told the CMP.

“It also pushed open the fitting room door and got in … pigs are actually not stupid.”

News reports said the animal was a 25kg juvenile female.

Shoppers squealed in amazement as the boar clambered down onto the top of a display case, jumped to the floor and skittered around the shop, knocking over mannequins and signs.

“Even a wild pig can beat you all?” teased onlookers as a dozen police and animal control officers struggle to capture the boar, the South China Morning Post reported.

It was eventually tranquilised and taken to an animal rehab centre.

Earlier on Sunday, a 40kg boar entered a pool at Shing Mun Valley Park at about 11am in an apparent attempt to cool off.

Many wild boars roam Hong Kong’s countryside.

They can grow up to two metres in length and have been known to attack humans.
