Chelsea Football Club has made a public appeal for information after fans were filmed blocking a black passenger from boarding a Paris train in a racist incident.

The footage shows Chelsea supporters refusing to let the man board the crowded Metro train before chanting “we’re racist, we’re racist and that’s the way we like it.”

The incident took place on Wednesday evening before the English Premier League side’s game against Paris Saint-Germain.

The man attempts to board the train several times and tries to reason with the British men while shocked passengers look on.

Paul Nolan, a British expat who filmed the clip on his way home from work, told The Guardian the men acted aggressively and even made references to World War II.

“He was obviously completely shocked when they pushed him off… He then tried to get on again and got pushed off a second time,” Mr Nolan said.

“There definitely was a culture shock. I heard a couple of French guys saying: ‘I can’t believe this. It’s insane’.”

Chelsea Football Club called the behaviour of the men “abhorrent” and said it had “no place in football or society”.

“We will support any criminal action against those involved, and should evidence point to involvement of Chelsea season-ticket holders or members the club, will take the strongest possible action against them, including banning orders.”

Scotland Yard said it would examine the footage in an attempt to identify the men and apply for football banning orders.

Twitter was ablaze with condemnation of the assault, with former English footballer and sports commentator Gary Lineker calling the attack was “sickening” and “disgraceful”.
