An Australian pair of Star Wars superfans have been married by a Jedi while waiting for The Force Awakens to open in Los Angeles.

Caroline Ritter, 34, and Andrew Porters, 28, from the Hunter Valley in NSW, had the ultimate Star Wars-themed wedding on the red carpet of the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre.

Ms Ritters was walked down the aisle by Darth Vader, and the officiator, dressed as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, took the chance to indulge in a number of Star Wars references during the ceremony.

Other attendees included Chewbacca, a Stormtrooper, a bowtied R2-D2 and other famous characters from the sci-fi blockbuster.

“It was the theatre’s idea,” Ms Ritter told Mashable.

“They asked if anyone was interested in getting married here on the premiere date.

The couple, who had been engaged for eight years, couldn’t say no.

Ms Ritter and Mr Porters were camping outside the TCL Chinese Theater for 12 days ahead of the opening as part of a charity fundraiser for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Following the wedding, IMAX donated a $5000 check to the Starlight Children’s Foundation in the couple’s names.

Ms Ritter had also participated in charity camp-outs for the opening of Attack of the Clones in 2002 and Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

“This theatre changed my life in 2002 and it was the perfect spot for us.

“The family and friendships we’ve made, that’s why I keep coming back. [The theatre] have been fantastic to let us do this. This is a dream come true,” she said.

The wedding was live-streamed for the benefit of Ritter’s father.

“My dad hates flying, even for my own wedding,” Ritter said.

The couple’s first act as newlyweds was to enter the cinema and finally watch the highly-anticipated film.
