Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are set to give Australia’s SailGP team the Welcome to Wrexham TV treatment.

Hollywood stars, and friends Jackman and Reynolds bought a stake in the Bonds Flying Roos last year and have now signed a deal for a Disney + docuseries centred on the sailing team.

The show will follow the Flying Roos as they compete in the international SailGP Championship season.

The show mirrors the highly successful Disney docuseries Welcome to Wrexham, which follows the journey of Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC after it was purchased by Reynolds and fellow US actor Rob McElhenney.

“This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water,” Jackman and Reynolds said in a joint statement over the weekend.

“And [fingers crossed] pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP.”

As well as proving extremely popular as the subject of a streaming series, Wrexham AFC  has surged through the British leagues since it’s high-profile acquisition in 2020.

It went from the lowly Association Football to narrowly missing out on the playoffs to enter the top-tier Premier League this year.

The Disney series and its association with Hollywood stars has drawn a large global fan base and lucrative merchandise sales for Wrexham.

While the Bonds Flying Roos won’t offer the same rags-to-riches storyline, producers are confident the thrilling nature of the sport will attract viewers.

SailGP is the global championship where national teams race identical high-tech, high-speed 50-foot (15-metre) foiling catamarans at close-to-shore venues around the world, hitting speeds of up to 100km/h.

The Australian team is skippered by Tom Slingsby, an Olympic gold medallist, America’s Cup winner and three-time SailGP champion widely regarded as one of the most decorated sailors in history.

Wrexham AFC co-chairman McElhenney – the executive producer behind Welcome to Wrexham – will produce the new series through his More Better Productions banner. Brent Hodge will be director and showrunner.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring this story to Disney+ audiences around the world.”

Jackman and Reynolds were revealed as co-owners of the Flying Roos in June 2025. The team is sitting second in the 2026 SailGP standings, pushing for the top spot as the season continues.
