Elton John forced to change diet following health scare

Sir Elton John has overhauled his diet after suffering a health scare.
The 77-year-old singer has made a concerted effort to control his blood sugar levels in recent times, after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the early 2000s and battling a severe eye infection earlier this year.
âI can have an apple, I can eat a bit of melon. As long as youâre sensible about it, it doesnât shoot your blood sugar up. But what I crave is chocolate and ice cream â I canât have any ice cream,â he said on Ruthieâs Table 4 podcast.
Despite this, he revealed that his dream meal would still be full of sugar-filled desserts.
âIf I had a death row meal, it wouldnât contain anything except sweets, because I canât eat them now. So, Iâd have ice cream, doughnuts, apple pie, rhubarb crumble,â he said.
Sir Elton has dealt with various health issues over the years, including having surgery for prostate cancer and battling a âsevere eye infectionâ.
âI donât have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I donât have a prostate. I donât have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee. In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But Iâm still here,â the Iâm Still Standing singer said last month.
The singer detailed his most-recent problem in an Instagram post in September.
âOver the summer, Iâve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but itâs an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,â he said.
âI am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.
âI have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.â
Earlier this year, Sir Elton picked up an Emmy for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium, a three-hour concert documentary that streamed on Disney+.
The win put him in entertainmentâs rare club of EGOT winners â those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.
His headline set at last yearâs Glastonbury festival marked his final British performance as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
