A British tourist has caught a car literally melting in the summer heat on camera.

While holidaying in Caorle in Italy’s north, 48-year-old John Westbrook from Kent, London discovered the embattled vehicle – a Renault Megane.

Mr Westbrook was driving past on a 37-degree day when he happened to notice a car’s fixtures, window mirrors and window fittings were dripping onto the road, he told MailOnline.

“We drove past and just couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Bits of the car were literally dripping off on to the road,” he said.

“Even bits of the bumper were melted and the wing mirrors were starting to buckle.

“I guess the moral of the story is don’t trust French cars.”

Mr Westbrook, who was on holiday with his family, said they were spending most of their time indoors.

“As soon as you walk out of the hotel it’s like walking into an oven,” said Mr Westbrook.

Italy has been sweltering through a killer heatwave this summer.
