Multi-ton American and Japanese robots to fight
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiaoâs âFight of the Centuryâ could be set to be eclipsed by a giant robot bout scheduled to happen in a year.
A multi-ton robot from Americaâs MegaBots engineering will square off against a bot from the Japanese Suidobasho Heavy Industry company.

In a video, two representatives from MegaBots challenged the Japanese firm to a duel. They say they have a robot called âthe Mark II, Americaâs first fully functional giant piloted robotâ.
âAnd because weâre American, weâve added really big guns,â MegaBots boast.
It didnât take long for the Japanese company to respond to the challenge. They said theyâd be more than happy to have their similarly giant human-driven robot do battle.
âJust building something huge and sticking guns on it ⌠Itâs super American,â Suidobashoâs founder Kogoro Kurata said.
âOn behalf of Japan, we accept your challenge.â
The American robot costs around $175,000 USD to build and weighs almost 5,500 kgs while the Japanese robot sells for $1 million USD and weighs just over 4,000 kgs.
â[Suidobashi] is about three times faster than we are,â MegaBots cofounder Gui Cavalcanti said. âTheir tech is currently more advanced, but we have about a year to catch up. I think itâll even out.â
No date has been set for the fight but both technology companies plan to announce the fightâs time and location soon.
