Taylor Swift’s record-breaking, economy-boosting tour is coming to cinemas – and other films are stepping aside to make way.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , the movie version, will come to big screens in North America on October 13, which happens to be a Friday.

The Eras Tour combined songs from each of Swift’s albums, or her “10 eras”.

Many fans saw this coming, as extra cameras were spotted on a few nights when the 33-year-old superstar played at SoFi Stadium in LA.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift wrote on Friday (AEST) alongside a trailer for the film.

“Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” she added, in a nod to fans dressing up for her shows and exchanging friendship bracelets. 

The Eras Tour has just proved that Swift’s star power should not be underestimated.

It could become the highest grossing tour of all time – expected to gross $US2.2 billion ($2.4 billion) in ticket sales alone, according to CNN.

Tickets for the movie version have already gone on pre-sale and, according to Deadline, have surpassed $10 million.

The concert film will obviously star Swift as she takes the stage, and is directed by Sam Wrench.

Friday’s announcement came in the middle of dual Hollywood strikes. However, a source close to Swift confirmed to Billboard she had obtained clearance under a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.

Making way for Taylor Swift

Tickets to Swift’s concerts were hard to come by and AMC Theatres is bracing for strong demand when the film hits cinemas.

It has already promised that its US cinemas will each play the film at least four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

According to Variety, AMC is also taking measures to ensure there are no issues with people buying tickets to see Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

“AMC has upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic the company has ever experienced before,” the company said in a statement reported by Variety.

“But AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.

“Guests wanting to be the first to buy their tickets online may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times and possible outages. AMC is committed to ensuring any delays or outages are addressed as quickly as possible.”

Taylor Swift will bring her tour to Australia in 2024.

As mentioned, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is released on Friday the 13th, a spooky day and a good one to release a horror film.

That was the plan for The Exorcist: Believer. But Swift’s announcement was a dark day for that film.

Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse Productions, took to Twitter to announce that “Taylor Wins” and The Exorcist: Believer will be released on October 6 instead.

“Look what you made me do,” he said in reference to a Swift song from her album Reputation.

“The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23.”

Unfortunately for Australian Swifties, the Eras film so far has no release date for Down Under.
