Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has spoken out publicly for the first time since being hospitalised with a mystery “medical complication” a month ago.

Foxx, who is known for films such as Django, Collateral and Ray, shared his first statement in an Instagram post on Wednesday (US time), thanking fans for all the support he has received.

“Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed,” he wrote.

It is his first public statement since the 55-year-old was rushed to hospital after an unspecified incident in early April.

“We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,” daughter Corinne Foxx wrote in an Instagram post.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.

“We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family.”

Ms Foxx shared no further details, and the post has since been deleted.

The “medical complication” apparently came in Atlanta, where Foxx had been shooting Back in Action, a Netflix comedy that is Cameron Diaz’s first film role in nearly 10 years. It also stars Andrew Scott and Jamie Demetriou and is directed by Seth Gordon.

There were multiple reports at time that Foxx’s condition was serious enough that his family had also rushed to the Atlanta hospital to be by his bed. Days after, one source told media, “He’s communicating now, and that’s good news”.

About a fortnight later, People reported it had been told that Foxx remained in hospital.

“He’s OK, thank God,” a source told the magazine.

“He’s still in the hospital and doctors are running tests but he’s awake and alert. They’re keeping him under observation.”

There have been few updates on Foxx’s health since. At the weekend, his friend Nick Cannon was asked about Foxx during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“Man, I’m praying. You see, I posted on Instagram. I literally have been saying prayers out loud. Words of affirmation for my big brother,” he said.

Cannon then dropped a big hint: “I know he’s doing so much better because I’m actually about to do something special for him, and doing him a favour.”

He refused to give any more details.

“I was reluctant to go all the way there, and even talk about it, but he gave me the blessing, so it’s a beautiful thing,” Cannon said.

“He’s awake. They say he’s alert, so, we love it. That’s family right there.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cannon is tipped to take over Foxx’s hosting duties for the upcoming season of his game show Beat Shazam.

Foxx also teased Cannon’s big announcement in a follow-up Instagram post on Wednesday,

“Appreciate ya my boy Nick Cannon. See u all soon,” he wrote.
