Hollywood star: always respect your parents

Comedian Aziz Ansari has some wise words on appreciating your parents before itâs too late.
The former Parks and Recreation star took to blogging site Tumblr overnight to post an emotional message to his father, Shoukath.

Shoukath, a gastroenterologist by trade, recently took time off work to star in his sonâs new Netflix series, Master of None.
Shoukath and Ansariâs mother, Fatima, play Ansariâs characterâs parents in the comedy series.
âMy dad took off most of his vacation time for the year to act in Master of None. So Iâm really relieved this all worked out,â Ansari wrote on Wednesday.
âTonight after we did Colbert together he said: âThis is all fun and I liked acting in the show, but I really just did it so I could spend more time with youâ.
âI almost instantly collapsed into tears at the thought of how much this person cares about me and took care of me and gave me everything to give me the amazing life I have.â
The 32-year-old American-born actor, whose parents are from Tamil Nadu, India, went on to say he felt guilty about the way he had treated his parents in the past.
âI felt like a total piece of garbage for all the times I havenât visited my parents and told them I wanted to stay in New York cause Iâd get bored in SC [South Carolina]. Iâm an incredibly lucky person and many of you are as well,â he said.
âNot to beat a dead horse here and sorry if this is cheesy or too sentimental but if your parents are good to you too, just go do something nice for them. I bet they care and love you more than you realise.â
Ansari added that peopleâs reaction to Master of None â which is a fictional examination of relationships, parenting and family â had encourage shim to reflect on his real-life relationships.
âIâve been overwhelmed by the response to the Parents episode of our show. Whatâs strange is doing that episode and working with my parents has increased the quality of my relationship to my parents IN MY REAL LIFE.
âIn reality, I havenât always had the best, most open relationship with my parents because we are weirdly closed off emotionally sometimes. But we are getting better.
âAnd if you have something like that with your family â I urge you to work at it and get better because these are special people in your life and I get terrified when my dad tells me about friends of his, people close to his age, that are having serious health issues, etc.
âEnjoy and love these people while you can.â
Amen to that.
