Iconic UK comedy Blackadder could be set to make a comeback, with one of the show’s stars hinting the cast would like to see it return.

Sir Tony Robinson, better known as Baldrick, told The Sun he was campaigning for a return of the period sitcom, which ran for four seasons in the 1980s.

“I do think a new series of Blackadder is on the cards. I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now,” he said.

“The only problem is Hugh’s fee. He’s a huge star now — or so he’d like to think.”

But it could be a risky undertaking, the 69-year-old said, with the show having built up a cult following both when it was first broadcast between 1983 and 1989, and in the years since.

“Expectations for a new series will be high because people not only remember the original, they remember who they were when it was on. It’s a big danger,” he said.

Laurie was reportedly paid about £250,000 ($AU537,000) per episode for his leading role in US medical drama House.

Laurie, along with Mr Bean‘s Rowan Atkinson and Robinson, who now presents archeological shows like Time Team, rose to fame in the sitcom which follows the misadventures of main character Edmund Blackadder and his servant Baldrick.
