Graham Norton thinks Australia’s inclusion in Eurovision is a nonsense.

The TV presenter, who annually provides a cheeky commentary on the song contest for the BBC, told reporters at the Bafta awards in London just what he thought of the Australian inclusion.

“It’s a nonsense,” he said.

“The one thing the contest doesn’t need is another song”.

He also said he “doesn’t understand” why Australia has been included, according to The Independent.

The presenter hinted that if Australia wins, Germany should host the contest next year, according to the news outlet.

He also said he was disappointed by the lack of upbeat songs in the competition, telling reporters on the BAFTA Television Awards red carpet, “There are lots of ballads. There aren’t as many kitschy novelty acts, even in the semi-finals”.

Guy Sebastian will be faced with the task of changing Norton’s mind when he represents Australia with his song Tonight Again at the competition in Vienna on May 23.

The inclusion of Australia was a nod to the show’s popularity Down Under and to mark the Eurovision’s 60th anniversary.

It will be a one-off inclusion unless Australia wins this year’s contest.
