Former Sunrise weather reporter Grant Denyer has revealed that doctors told him he was “going to die” if he didn’t give up his role on the breakfast program.

Denyer said that he left Sunrise last year after suffering from exhaustion, sleeping for up to 23 hours a day, according to a news.com.au report.

“I did a year too long on Sunrise and paid a big price for it physically. I was very ill, very medically ill, just so tapped out and empty,” said Denyer.

“The docs said ‘you’re going to die’, they tested all my organs and they were running on 7 per cent.”

The father-of-two fought claims this year that he was battling a drug addiction after checking into a Thai rehab facility, which Denyer says was to treat chronic fatigue.

“I didn’t see the warning signs. I thought I was invincible and I f***ed up,” said Denyer.

“They’d stand me up on camera, they’d wake me up in between crosses and put me in front of the camera and count me in,” said Denyer of his time at Sunrise.

While the 36-year-old admitted that he missed his old job, calling it the “greatest gig in the world”, he said he was careful of not repeating his past mistakes.

Denyer has since moved from Seven to Channel Ten, where he hosts new show Family Feud.
